A security group is a set of firewall rules which are specified for access to that particular virtual machine. You can create your own security groups, modify existing or use the default ones provided.
You can add and edit security groups from the system via the network section.
First you must go to your package via the main menu and you will see the following screen that shows your virtual machines. Click on the virtual machine name (in this case virtual-machine01).
This will lead you to the virtual machine details page as below:
From here you should click on the Network menu link on the left hand side of the screen which will take you to the network section, showing the "interfaces" tab by default. Click onthe "Security Groups" tab to show the below screen:
From here you can create a new security group or edit an existing rule set. In this instance we want to create a new security group, as such you should click "Create new security group" which will take you to the following screen:
You should give the new security group a meaningful name and description for future ease of use and then click "Create new security group". This will then take you back to the previous menu but show the newly created security group. From there you can edit the security group by selecting the "Edit rules" button on that particular group. The following will be displayed:
From the above interface you can remove rules or add new rules in the following way by specifying the direction ingress (inbound), egress (outbound) in addition to the protocol, start and end port, IP version and the CIDR address:
Once the data is filled out as per as standard "firewall configuration" would be, you click submit and it should illustrate the following:
This security group can then be applied to either new virtual machines or existing virtual machines by attaching or detaching from the main menu (or at the time of virtual machine creation).
