Adding Public IP Addresses - Why don't they have an IP by default?

If you take allocated resources from Coreix we give you an IP allocation pool. Once you create your virtual machine it will have a private address (RFC1918 space).

You can add floating IP addresses (public IP's) from the system via the network section.

First you must go to your package via the main menu and you will see the following screen that shows your virtual machines. Click on the virtual machine name (in this case virtual-machine01).

Virtual Machine Without Public IP

This will lead you to the virtual machine details page as below:

Virtual Machine Details

You will see that you have a private IP assigned. On the left hand side you can see a "Network" link, you should click on this and it will take you to the network section for this particular virtual machine. You should see a page similar to the following:

No Floating IP assigned

From here you must click on the button "Assign Floating IP Address". Once you click on this, the following screen should be displayed which now asks which network interface to assign the floating IP to:

Choose an interface

In most cases there will only be one interface (especially if you just created your first virtual machine). There is a seperate knowledgebase article on additional interfaces here.

You can go ahead and click on "Assign Floating IP Address", which should take you to the following:

Assigned Floating IP

You will now be able to connect to this IP address to manage your server. If you need further assistance please raise a ticket or e-mail direct on support@coreix.net
